A tour of EduNation islands in Second Life

An interview with Gavin Dudeney, the director of EduNation in Second Life, and a virtual video tour of the EduNation islands. You can get a brief overview of what English teachers can do there. Amazing, to say the least.

"Schools teach you to fear technology"

The title of this post is a quote from an interview with a 14-year-old on educational technology. "Arthus" (his web nick) is from Vermont and the interview was made by Steve Hargadon of http://www.infinitethinking.org/ - here is the direct link to the .mp3 file:
http://audio.edtechlive.com/arthus.mp3

Interesting and valid insights into the use (and misuse) of technology in education - for example, schools shouldn't teach the tools but the concepts.

Applications for Full Scholarships to WorldCALL 2008

Posted on behalf of Thomas Robb & John Mugane, Co-Chairs, WorldCALL Scholarship Committee:

WorldCALL 2008, to be held in Fukuoka, Japan from August 5-8, 2008 announces the availability of full scholarships to the congress, including transportation, fees, lodging and a stipend for miscellaneous expenses. In keeping with our policy of “Equity and Access” these scholarships are only available to participants from countries that are not considered to be “Higher Income Economies” by the World Bank. The scholarships are thus based not only on merit but also on financial need. An accepted presentation is not a requirement for a scholarship award.

We encourage all CALL scholars and practitioners, including graduate students in qualifying countries, to apply. Further information and the application form are available at: http://wc3scholar.info. The deadline for the receipt of applications is December 31, 2007.

Further information about the conference itself and the paper submission process can be found at:

Collegially,
Thomas Robb & John Mugane, Co-Chairs, WorldCALL Scholarship Committee
